Indian States at a Glance 2008-09: Performance, Facts and Figures presents information on the 29 states and 6 union territories of India in a set of 22 volumes. A compilation of the latest facts and figures, ranging from the basic socio-economic and demographic indicators to development parameters, these books also provide brief profiles of the states covering their history, culture, cuisine, handicrafts, places of tourist interest as well as an account of their performance vis-à-vis other states

This volume covers small states and the union territories of India—Delhi, Goa, Chandigarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. The Union Territory of Puducherry and the National Capital Territory of Delhi have a legislative assembly and council of ministers. The others are administered directly by the central government. Each unit is distinct from the other in characteristics. While Delhi, Puducherry and Chandigarh are urban and well developed, the islands in Andaman and Nicobar and in Lakshadweep share ecological concerns as they aspire to higher levels of development. Daman and Diu are dominated by the manufacturing and services sector while Dadra and Nagar Haveli are primarily agrarian with a large tribal population. Goa, with its high growth as well as progress on the social front, stands out as an example of what other states can emulate.
