The book on mechanical vibrations by Dr. Shrikant Bhave is one of rarest books which deal with theory and practice of vibration analysis with equal emphasis. The treatment of mathematical theory of vibration analysis with great emphasis on explanation of the concepts through practical examples is something which has not been attempted in currently available books on the subject. This is an outstanding work.

This is an extremely useful and comprehensive yet compact book on the theme of vibrations. The book is seen to address the needs of students as well as practicing engineers and is therefore equally useful to both. While the essential theoretical foundation of the subject has been adequately dealt with, the practical point of view is adequately emphasized through explanatory notes and case studies, which is a novel feature of the book. The variety of topics covered and overall integration makes the book an excellent treatise for anyone seriously interested in the subject of vibrations.

This is a fantastic book on mechanical vibrations. It is a perfect blend of essential theories and years of hands-on industry experiences of the author (Dr Bhave). Great work.

Mechanical Vibration written by Dr. S. Bhave is very timely as its need has been long felt in India. There are very few books which are easily accessible to a typical student, and when one considers the number of practical tips that the author has provided there is none that can equal the present book in guiding not only the student but also practicing engineers. The book presents the basic theory of vibration analysis by the judicious choice of simple techniques and easy to understand mathematical methods in a very clear and logical manner. Several practical applications of the mathematical theory of vibrations have been introduced in such a way that the basic concepts could be understood and their possible utility for more complicated situations can be easily visualized. The introduction of Lagrangian techniques is a very welcome aspect of this book, because such methods can be generalized and applied to a variety of different situations and also since they provide a solid frame work for the theoretical basis of Finite element and other numerical methods. Yet another pleasing and useful aspect of “Mechanical Vibrations” is in the method and of treatment of practical problems: in failure analysis and diagnostics of mechanical equipment. The chapter on diagnosis makes this book a very valuable reference material for the practioners. The book also deals with fundamental concepts behind Finite Element Analysis, this is very important since it is very necessary to understand them before using commercial FEM soft wares. On the experimental side the book presents many techniques for modal analysis and ties the methods to a firm theoretical basis, this is very important for the student: as modal methods lies in the kernel of knowledge required for determining vibratory behavior of mechanisms and for solving practical problems involving diagnostics of failure. On the whole Dr. Bhave has written an excellent book.

I am a practicing engineer and also a visiting faculty in SP university at Vallabh Vidyanagar. I find this book extremely useful to engineers dealing with vibration problems both at design level and also the vibration problems in the field. The book exceedingly good background of the theory of vibrations without which it is impossible to solve the practical problems. I have not come across any text book of this type. I would like congratulate the publishers for bringing out such a book which to best of my knowledge is unequalled.

The book provides an excellent mix of theory of vibration analysis and practice of vibrations. Majority of books deal with mathematical/analytical treatment and do not deal with (deal very little) practical application of vibrations analysis. The book also presents a large number of solved problems which will strengthen the concepts given in the book. I as the principal engineering college at Karjat (Maharashtra) shall recommend this book as the text book in our university board of studies.

I congratulate the publishers for bringing out an excellent book on mechanical vibrations. usuallythe subject is disliked by students because of complex mathematical analysis given in most of the text books. however the students as well teachers will find the exhaustive mathematical treatment interesting as well as easy to understand because of practical applications of the concepts. i have not come across any text book on vibration which apart from giving exhaustive theoretical analysis, gives very interesting case studies.there is no doubt that the price of the book is affordable by students.

Usually the books on mechanical vibrations deal with complex mathematical analysis which makes reading as well as understanding very laborious. The present book is a welcome exception to this as it gives the detailed mathematical analysis considering practical applications so that the student commiunity is bound to understand the subject thoroughly. I have not come across any text book on vibrations which has given equal weightage to practical vibration analysis and appropriate case studies. Worth reading and highly educative.

A very unusual book that covers the theory of vibrations and the application of the same to practical problems in a very impressive manner. The author has kept the mathematical treatment to a level just required. This will be welcome by students as well as practicing engineers. the presentation is extremely good.
