Amiya Dev

Amiya Dev is an alumnus of Jadavpur and Indiana Universities, where he took his masters and doctorate respectively. A member of the Jadavpur faculty for more than three and a half decades and editor of the Jadavpur Journal of Comparative Literature for nearly one and a half, he has helped develop the principal tenets of Comparative Literature in India and estab¬lish its distinctive character. He has written widely in Bengali and English, and has edited, among other things, a collection of essays on narrative, and co-edited with Earl Miner The Renewal of Song: Renovation in Lyric Conception and Practice. Formerly a member of the Executive Council of the International Comparative Literature Association, and a Vice-President, and also Vice-Chancellor of Vidyasagar University, he has recently edited the Science, Literature and Aesthetics, Volume XV, Part 3 of the Project of History of Indian Science, Philosophy and Culture.
